Make Your Job Better
The construction industry is booming and there’s a nationwide shortage of skilled workers who can get the job done. This means there’s never been a better time for you to join our union and gain a fairer share of the profits you’re helping to produce. By joining together with your co-workers and forming a union where you work, you’re paving the way to higher pay, better benefits, and a more secure future.
Same Set Of Rules
The member’s of this local union work under the conditions of the collective bargain agreement with our signatory contractor’s. Contracts are negotiated by the Union for everyone on the job, and emphasize equality and fair treatment. They provide a written set of rules that apply to everyone on every job, eliminating favouritism and discrimination and guaranteeing that no one can be unfairly or arbitrarily be disciplined or dismissed.
Wage rates, Pensions and Health benefits carry from job to job, company to company. When you’re paid fairly you have more time for yourself and your family.
Employment support / Hiring Hall
Being part of the Union also means you have support when you are out of work or injured. Having a Union Hiring Hall means the local works to find employment for you with signatory contractors helping keep out of work time to a minimum. Also as part of an International Union you have access to work in other parts of the country through our sister locals. If you are injured at work, wrongfully dismissed or not compensated fairly your union representative is there to make sure you get what you deserve. We assist our members with E.I and WorksafeBC issues.
Helping Build A Stronger Community
Having a union where you work helps creating good paying jobs and building a secure future for yourself and your community. When you replace low-wage and temporary jobs with good union jobs, you help boost local economies, lift living standards, strengthen tax bases helping to reduce the burden on your local community.
Whether you’re just starting out or experienced in your craft keeping up with technological changes is a must and training is the key. Apprentices get paid while learning basic skills and advanced training provided to the Journeypersons by the union so you can upgrade your skills.
Retirement security is hard to come by when you work in construction. But union construction workers have collectively bargained Pensions they can count on. Fully portable multi-employer plans, controlled by union trustees, means union construction workers accrue benefits on every job. Pension surpluses go back in the benefits and not to corporations.
You Get Extended Health Benefits
Union construction workers and their families have extended Health benefits provided by their contract. Dental, prescription drug plans, chiropractic, vision care and more provide protection to you and your family. When you’re in a union, your health benefits are portable; your coverage follows you from job to job.
